Sonya Iwasiuk is a self-taught mixed-media artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her artistic journey began after earning a diploma in advertising in 1991, transitioning from an award-winning graphic designer to a full-time fine artist. Drawing inspiration from her childhood in Northern Alberta, where she explored abandoned farms and collected forgotten artifacts, Iwasiuk's work reflects themes of memory, history, and resilience.
At her studio in the iconic 1000 Parker Street building, Iwasiuk creates evocative mixed-media pieces that incorporate hand-rusted steel, plaster, gold leaf, and found objects. Her series, such as "You Are My Home" and "A New Resilience," delve into topics like immigration, identity, and the human connection to place.
